Grandma's Famous Cornbread
Oh my LARD I am so excited because on this episode of The Secret Ingredient Series, I have the amazing Mr. 100 (Sterling) as my guest! Sterling was a Season 13 Contestant on Hell’s Kitchen and a fan-favorite on that show. He’s an incredible chef here in Nashville and is truly one of the happiest and most positive people I know with a constant smile on his face, which is how he obtained his nick name, Mr. 100.
In this episode, Sterling and I make my grandmother’s famous Cast Iron Cornbread recipe…which is appropriate, because Sterling is a cast iron MASTER who shows us how to properly handle and season a cast iron.
I hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did filming it!
Recipe
Use a stick of butter to grease your Cast Iron Skillet for extra flavor and to make sure the cornbread doesn’t stick to the pan
In a large mixing bowl, add:
1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Cup of Corn Meal
1/2 Teaspoon of Salt
4 Teaspoons of Baking Soda
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons of Sugar for a sweeter cornbread (AKA the best kind 😉
1 1/2 Cups of Milk
(If you have a larger cast iron skillet than the size we used here, double this recipe)
Mix to combine all ingredients until smooth
Add batter to your cast iron skillet until it fills up about half of the pan
Heat oven to 425 degrees, bake for 15 minutes or until you can stick a toothpick through the cornbread and it comes out clean (for a double batch, bake at 425 for 30 minutes)
ENJOY!
