Gigi Butler Astounds TEDxNashville

Gigi Butler shares the ingredients that helped her bake her own American Dream

IMAGINE. This theme truly could not suit Gigi Butler any better. She rose to the occasion and wowed the crowd at this year’s TEDxNashville. Gigi Butler – founder of Gigi’s Cupcakes, entrepreneur and baking wizard – knows better than anyone that sweet dreams die hard.

While Gigi Butler is becoming a household name, many of us don’t know about the inspiring and heartfelt journey that made “the cupcake lady” we all know and love come to be.

Gigi honed in on all the dreamers out there and enticed the crowd by sharing her intimate “lesson that absolutely violated everything [she] knew about being successful”. Gigi was no stranger to working hard and finding her place in the world. Her original dream was a common one – to be a country singer. She put herself out there, performed at all the honky tonks, and did what she deemed necessary to have a successful music career. To support herself and her dream, Gigi began to clean houses. Her hard work seemed to be paying off and she soon began cleaning the homes of Nashville’s highest profiles.

Then her world changed. While cleaning a bathroom, Gigi overheard a teenager singing a song that would soon become a chart-topper, and it was at that moment that she realized her dreams were dying. Gigi shared the poignant memory of realizing where this singer was going, she was not. She refused to let this stop her. “Why not me” became a common mantra of hers while she persevered to achieve her new dream.

Gigi Butler’s story is one that we all can relate to. She was knocked down over and over again, but like the R.S. Grey quote states, “She believed she could, so she did”. Gigi believed in the American Dream, so she went out and baked her own. A decade later, one dead dream, boundless passion, and the courage to risk it all, Gigi opened The Original Gigi’s Cupcakes. From there, the rest is sweet history.
