6_8409_optWith nearly 100 Gigi’s locations across the country, you might imagine that I fly quite a bit.  I was recently on Southwest Airlines during a trip to New York when I picked up their magazine in the back pocket of the seat.  I flipped through the pages and I was intrigued with some fun and easy popcorn recipes in back of the magazine that I was excited to try with my daughter when I got home.  She loves popcorn and it reminds me of my childhood.

I think it is so important to get kids in the kitchen at an early age, and to make it fun for them to learn how to cook and bake. It doesn’t have to be a difficult recipe, it can be something as easy as seeing a simple popcorn recipe in a magazine and giving it a try.  It’s always a special time when I am able to cook in the kitchen with my daughter so we tried this fabulous Cinnamon Popcorn recipe!  It was so much fun and gave us a great activity to do together.

Give it a shot and enjoy for your next movie night!

Here’s the simple recipe of the popcorn we tried, Cinnamon Popcorn:

-1/2 cup popcorn kernels, popped

-3 teaspoons cinnamon

-2 tablespoons superfine sugar

-4 tablespoons melted butter

Combine cinnamon and sugar, and sprinkle over warm popcorn.  Drizzle with butter and add salt to taste.

If cinnamon isn’t your cup of tea the magazine listed two other recipes that are worth a try if you’re feeling up for it!

Tandoori-Spiced Popcorn:

1/2 cup popcorn kernels, popped

4 tablespoons paprika

2 tablespoons turmeric

2 teaspoons freshly cracked black pepper

1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard

1 teaspoon cayenne

4 tablespoons melted butter

Combine dry spices and mix well.  Drizzle melted butter over popcorn, and then sprinkle with spice mixture. Toss and add salt to taste.

Truffled Popcorn:

1/2 cup popcorn kernels, popped

1 tablespoon truffle oil

4 tablespoons melted butter

1-2 ounces Parmigiano-Reggiano

Combine truffle oil and butter, and pour over warm popcorn. Grate cheese over popcorn and add salt to taste.

Thanks Southwest Airlines for these easy and fun recipes!

Enjoy,

-Gigi
